I've read (trying to find study) that the Basal Metabolic Rate can be very different by person. Something like 1000 calories/day on very low end to 2500 on the very high end.

I think this explains a lot....why some people can eat more and not gain weight etc.

discuss :)

I just finished Gary Taubes Why We Get Fat (or something like that). His thesis is that we are all different and weight is not a simple matter of calories in v. calories out.

The NYTimes had a piece that indicated that genetic differences could explain why some people get more fit through exercise and some just remain at the same fitness level.

It's all more complex than the skinny guys who complain about COSs in the next seat would think.

Trueish. It is still calories in, calories out, just that the 'out' for normal body processes varies from individual to individual. If your BMR is 1000 cal and you eat 1500 a day (doing nothing else) you would gain a pound in a week. If your BMR was 2500 and you ate 3000 calories a day you would also gain a pound in a week.

the conclusion is to increase your BMR!!!!
