US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - US/UA status --> Australia

Greetings,
Being in SLC now, the best way to get to Oz is UA. Do you think you'd have better luck of ANYTHING (to include an E+ seat, if that exits on such a flight) as United Gold (it was a comp - no miles) or US1 ? From what I got from US - US miles can't be used for upgrading such an itin.
For that matter - I've done United domestically and seen the US1 bonus miles post. I haven't done any research on codeshare int. travel - those bonus miles into the US account would be nice also.
BUT - better seating will prevail as the option for this type of itin. Any previous experience or ideas out there ?
Thanks !

You should earn bonus miles for the entire itinerary. US members earn miles on UA operated flights worldwide including preferred bonus miles, even if the flights are not part of the US-UA codeshare. US preferred members should be able to request an E+ seat at the time of booking and have it confirmed. As for upgrading, you are correct, it is not possible to upgrade using miles. The only opportunity that US members have to upgrade on UA is within North America, and only by purchasing upgrades. I would give them your US1 number, since it seems that is the program you would rather earn miles in.

You should have the same chance using either program to confirm E+, which is definitely worth it on UA to SYD.
Early this year there was some problem with the computer automatically kicking out people with US numbers from the E+ section, but I hope they resolved this issue by now (this was early in 2003 when the partnership was first getting going and they hadn't work out all the bugs -- in this case it was safer to use a UA number).
Be sure to bring along your UA gold card since you can use it to get into the UA Red Carpet Club in SYD regardless of whether you are a member.
Have a great trip.

Just an added note, as a UA Gold (*Gold) you can also access the Air New Zealand and Singapore Air Clubs in Sydney. The UA club there is fairly nice but I found the other 2 to be nicer. They sort of suggested I go to the UA club since they wouldnt announce the UA flight in the other clubs but I said I would prefer their clubs. In fact at the Singapore I told him I wanted to compare clubs and see which was nicer and he told be to let him know because he was curious. The ANZ club is really bright, lots of windows, free computers and some food. The food in the Signapore Air lounge was nice. They had hot and cold food. Both had better food than the RCC.

When I flew to Australia in May, I was able to get US credit for the flight, but use UA miles to upgrade to business class. If you have enough UA miles, you might try that.

You should be able to use it anywhere as *G because you are on an international ticket. The domestic RCC usage limit only kicks into effect on domestic tickets.
