I was just getting ready to book a flight to TRI and I noticed that the A/C was coded a J41 which is that piece of crap the UA uses. The web page did not show it as a UA code share. Since when did Trans States fly those bucket of bolts?

I can remeber flying a J41 back in early 2001, quite an unpleasant experience. The only thing worse was flying on a J31, thank goodness they got rid of those last year!

No thanks, I'm just lurking. Call me the Lurker!

Trans States has had J41s for quite some time, operating mostly commuter routes out of BWI. The J41 is actually a decent plane ... the J32 is awful, though.

Please... no J31's!!!! CCAir (when they existed as US Express) used to fly them out of BLF/BKW to CLT (and PIT for awhile). Nice plane when the weather is beautiful, but hell when there's a few clouds or worse. A couple of quick stories...
I remember a flight the weekend before Thanksgiving out of BLF... full flight of 19, There were some guys onboard who had been deer hunting and partaking of the local lube (aka moonshine) I had found out while a couple of us were talking later at the USAir Club . It had gotten rough, and another on the flight told me those guys filled up a few bags before it was over.
Another flight from ROA to PIT, mid-morning in April '95. There was an equipment change on the origination in PIT, downgrade from a D38 to a J31. Beautiful when left ROA, but came down over Monroeville in the middle of a thunderstorm. Approach into PIT became a see-saw ride. When we landed an got to the gate, the first officer made the comment "He did a good job landing that one". I had met my finance at PIT and she was shaken up good on her incoming flight from MSP, so I know it was one heck of a storm we came down through.
Colgan now flies USEx out of here in Beech 1900's. I've flown them a few times, and they seems to be a major improvement over the J31's.

A "Mileage Run"... is that what they're called? I've been doing them for years and didn't know they had a name.
