US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - Minimum Connection time in Tampa?--US Express to US Air Flight?--

I just booked an award reservation through UA on a flight from SFO-EYW (Key West, FL).

All of the flights are on US Airways SFO to Tampa then US Express from Tampa to Key West.

It's not until March 2004 so a lot can change beforehand. But wanted to see what your opinion would be.

All the flights are fine with the exception of the return, where my connection in Tampa between the US Air Express flight and the US Air flight is only 25 minutes.

They thought at UA that everything was ok and that the computer gave it to them as an option. (though 30 minutes is the minimum connect time.)

What would you do?

a) Stick with this itinerary and hope a schedule change increases the layover?

b) Change to the 9am flight to make the connection? (not to the same flights...just an earlier flight.)

c) Will I actually make it if the connection time is only 25mins?

Thanks for the info.

My gut tells me that you will be running it close considering the way you would have to connect from UA E term to US F term.

Good luck with checked bags. Do you have other connection options?

Your connection is fine since it's US Express to US Air ... the gates are only five minutes apart at the most. US Air's operation in Tampa is not that big ...

It's all on US Airways....the other connection options are early in the morning around 9am or so...

If it's all on US, you have to double connect, probably EYW-TPA-CLT-SFO. Is this what you are doing? If you are on nonstop SFO-TPA flights, you booked a US codeshare flight operated by UA.

I'm routed SFO-PHL-TPA-EYW going

then EYW-TPA-PIT-SFO on the return.

It should only take you 3-5 minutes to get from one gate to the next, I think that US is down to about 5 gates in TPA. There is no concourse change, so no having to go through security again. I think that minimum connect time from US to US Exp is 30 minutes, but US Exp to US is only 25.

I don't think there has been a TPA-SFO nonstop on UA since 9/11.

There never was. UA used to fly TPA-LAX on either an A319 or A320, but dropped this after 9/11. Delta has stuck with the route, but recently switched it over to Song (better coach service, but no FC). The only non-stop from the Tampa Bay area to SFO is on ATA (TZ) nonstop from PIE (St. Petersburg International - just across the bay) on a 757-300.
