I am in a 7th floor building in Waikiki, Honolulu and we all know about the tsnuami. The building is not in line of sight of the beach, but still quite close. Staff here says 5th and over is safe, but still I feel abit unsure.
So what would you do? I could walk up towards Diamond Head which is the safe height nearby.

How long have you got until the wave would arrive? If you're worried, and you know you can get there safely and you know it's high enough to be safe, why not go to Diamond Head?

There is an active thread in the Travel->Hawaii forum about today's tsunami (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hawaii/1193270-impact-tsunami-hawaii-report-here.html)
and I'll move this thread to that forum, Ocn Vw 1K, Moderator, TravelBuzz.

This is a bit late, but the civil defense rule of thumb is "Steel and/or concrete buildings of six or more stories in height should provide adequate protection if people move to the third floor or above."

Well, I stayed where I was. I was abit disappointed that it wasn't bigger though. Wasted my night, but again happy it was not destructive waves which came in.
