I'm CP and flying LAS-PHL Sept 14th. The flight is showing G5 in terms of upgrade at this time. How do you think the chances of upgrade for myself and a companion? Flight number 618 at 11:15am. Would be nice to get my bro upgraded, considering it will be a long weekend in Vegas and he's not very fond of flying...

If chances are not so good, maybe I will consider using miles to get us up front.

It's a tough one, but at this point with G5, I'd spring the miles. LAS is a tough upgrade to come by, and will be even harder if they put the 757's with 8 F seats on the route.

I did that same flight the other day and they upgraded a bunch of folks right at the gate to clear a lot of coach standby's. So I think you will have a good shot

The flight is on a Sunday morning, so maybe that will help too. I don't think they are going to change the config. to 8 F...at least I hope not. Any more opinions out there? Burn the miles or take my chances?

I think Sunday would be one of the busiest days for LAS. Anyways, the last time I was there, there were plenty of US1's that were not upgraded. I burned miles and was glad that I did.

That is the Sunday after a De Lahoya fight, Vegas will be crowded, your flight may be early enough to avoid the rush out of town, but I would use the miles.

I've made a LAS trip on non-peak days and had absolutely no problem. As a GP I'm usually one of the first 3 to get an upgrade filed (a A321 most recently with only 12F and I was still the first status-upgrade on the plane).

Based on how I saw that happen, I'd bet all the 20K upgrades have filed (to go to the fight or whatever) and I'd hold off until the G availability fell to the size of my party + 2. Still, if there is a lot of F availability, I'd even wait for the gate since as CP you'd be first.

Then again, I don't have any aversion to flying Y, so you have to decide on your own.

Well, I was going to wait until the number got down to G2 or G3 to burn the miles, but that chineses website now says F6 A2 D5 G0 Y9 B9 M9 H0 K0 Q0 V0 L0. So looks like I'm sitting in the back. Can't believe 5 people uprgaded themselves or purchased f class tickets. Maybe I'll get lucky at the gate. At least I got us exit rows.
