(Not sure if this topic will have much traction, but I guess there's only one way to find out. :))

Do you know of or utilise any exercise/fitness facilities INSIDE the airport terminal? So far I've only encountered one airport that has a "fitness room" inside of security. Wondering if there are others out there so that we can assemble a list?

EDIT TO ADD: Since it's still TBD how many "inside security" options there are, why don't we just start to assemble a list of "places you get a workout when you're at the airport with a layover" and see what we can come up with! :)

DFW - Dallas-Ft. Worth
Terminal A - American Airlines Admirals Club: Small exercise room adjacent to the shower facilities; contains one treadmill, one recumbent bike, and one elliptical machine.

LHR - London Heathrow
Terminal 4 Hilton: Attached to the terminal; has an excellent fitness centre that sells single-visit passes with no requirement that you be a hotel guest. It's good enough that they also sell memberships to locals, and have quite a few takers. (link to post (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/15996073-post4.html))

ORD - Chicago-O'Hare
ORD Hilton: Across from the airport; rates available for passengers on layovers to utilise health club. (link to post (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/15992448-post2.html))

ORD - ORD Hilton, which is across the driveway. They're set up for & have rates for folks doing layovers for health club reasons.

Oops - realized you wanted inside the terminal. But I was going to start a thread re: exercise options at all re: airports, so this thread is just as good as any to post that.

Cheers.

My original intent was to just focus on options inside the airport, but upon reading your post, SkiAdcock, I think it would make sense just to make it general (inside and outside) for now. If necessary, from a knowledge-management standpoint, we can always opt to turn it into a wiki page or split off separate threads with the help of a mod for inside security vs. outside security options.

(I'll change my OP to reflect the broader query/scope. :))

LHR - London Heathrow
Terminal 4 - the attached Hilton has an excellent fitness center (given its UK location, perhaps that should be "centre?") that sells single-visit passes with no requirement that you be a hotel guest. It's good enough that they also sell memberships to locals, and have quite a few takers.

I don't think I have ever seen a gym airside. I don't really understand why - other than the required space, of course. I would certainly make use of a facility if I had 2 or more hours to kill.

I was skeptical of this website because of its name (http://www.airportgyms.com/) but it actually does contain some useful data. You sort by state and it will show gyms either in airports or near them.

The gym at ORD has a complete set of weights and cardio equipment. One of the real few options around. I usually just try to walk as much as possible and do not stand on esclators/moving walkways unless there are people in the way.

another helpful addition to this thread is hotels that have complimentary passes for guests to real gyms

for example, the Hyatt Summerfield Suites El Segundo gives you a pass to the Spectrum club next door or at least did the last time I was there; I know my gym (Golds) has hotel passes to b/c I see the sign in sheet next to where I swipe my key chain card.

I'd start that as a separate thread - airports & hotels being too dif animals (so to speak). But a great idea!

Cheers.

There's a thread in the UA forum about which are the best UA airports you can walk at:

I saw a couple of discussions about airport gyms, one of them from 2005.
I recently found the following website: http://www.airportgyms.com/ - might be useful - anyone knows if it is up to date?

I am starting this thread partially because I am sure I will remember "there was this website about airport health clubs ... what was its name ..." in a year or so. Now it is documented here. Do not take this as a guarantee about quality/accuracy of the website.

It does sound like a good idea for airport hotels (or maybe even a franchise concept) to actively market one or two hour access to a gym on or near an airport for a fee. Throw in a couple of miles to draw in frequent flyers (status qualifying because "the airlines want to stimulate a healthy lifestyle") - and a smart entrepreneur may have found a nice little niche.

SFO has the yoga room in T2.

ORD has the Hilton attached to the terminal which sells day passes to the gym IIRC.

The AA lounge at DFW has some facilities. Possibly MIA, too.

I'm sure there are more.

I find it's fun to run through the terminal, then shower in the lounge. My favourite airport in which to do this is DTW.

MIA Hotel has been renovated and they closed their health club.

They now advertise a spa within "walking distance", but I have not tried it yet.
