For those of you who like to push your culinary boundaries beyond such delicacies as durian and kimchi, you might want to consider attending the Wildfoods Festival in Hokitika (http://www.wildfoods.co.nz/index.cfm/1,235,html/Stallholder-Information), located on the South Island of New Zealand on March 12, 2011.

Amongst other delicacies expected to be served are such gastronomic delights as raw scorpions, sea tulip shots, chocolate-covered beetles, weka, deep-fried grubs, and horse semen shots flavored with chocolate, vanilla or strawberry.

Wouldn't want to eat it, and neither would I want to be the one tasked with procuring said ingredients

What is culinary about that? Just disgusting in my view.:td:

Flavored horse semen ?? That is not even gross- it is as close to perversion as it gets.. Where do people get such ideas from and then to flavor it!! Jeez. Shaking my head !:td:

What is culinary about that? Just disgusting in my view.:td:You have no argument from me whatsoever, as I completely agree with you.

Then again, I wonder who was the first person to look at a lobster crawling around or a shrimp swimming in the water and say “Hmm...I think I will try eating that...”, as well as what that person was thinking.

Culinary tastes are subjective and are in the eye — or, should I say, tongue and palette — of the beholder...

...and horse semen shots flavored with chocolate, vanilla or strawberry.

They may come in the neopolitan flavours but I bet they look like Pina Colada.

Caviar is considered a great delicacy, and while not from horses, it's the female half of the sperm + egg equation. I'm sure many of the people who have posted their utter disgust at the idea of consuming horse semen regularly consume eggs from chickens. Our delicious "milk" that we buy in the grocery might not sound so appealing if we weren't culturally used to drinking it and someone came up with the idea of drinking 'cow udder secretion'.

Not that I'll be consuming horse semen anytime soon, but it's interesting the way our cultural norms bias what we find disgusting versus what we consider to be a treasured delicacy.

After downloading the 2011 stallholders (http://www.wildfoods.co.nz/index.cfm/3,235,942/2011-stallholders.pdf) .pdf file — which you probably should not view if you have a weak stomach — I notice that in addition to such items as “Cow's Udder Seasoned and BBQ'd to your delight” and “Worm Dukkha” — on which I would pass if offered — there are also such culinary items available as Scallop Kebabs and Fresh Strawberries and Ice Cream.

Now that is more to my taste, although there is a chance that ice cream might include...cow udder secretion...as one of its ingredients...

A Parilla close to my apartment in Iquique Chile offers ubres (Cow's Udder). I have not tried it yet, will before I leave. I hear mixed reviews.

Sound perfect for one of those intimate tête–à–tête dinners.

This entire thread brings to mind the line attributed to Jonathan Swift ("He was a bold man that first ate an oyster"),

More information here (http://www.aolnews.com/2011/02/25/stallion-semen-served-up-in-new-zealand-as-new-energy-drink/). It's the new energy drink, although perhaps it would fall into the category of Hors d'œuvre.

For those of you who like to push your culinary boundaries beyond such delicacies as durian and kimchi...while most southeast asians i know have never tried durian, i challenge you to find a single korean person who has never eaten kimchi. not really what you could call a delicacy.

You know what...I have no one but myself to blame for opening this thread. The title CLEARLY stated what I'd be getting myself into...but yet, sigh...I still had to click.

I'll be honest, I'm intrigued. I'd probably try it...would have to mentally prep myself a little bit, but I'd give it a shot. :)

Wow, a lot of people have weak stomachs. I would not KNOWINGLY touch horse semen least talk about drink it. But I also find escargot disgusting, along with the aforementioned caviar and Rocky Mountain Oysters and other Sweet Breads, Blood Pie, Blood Sausage, Haggis, etc. However, just thinking about any of those things doesn't make me queasy or wish I had never known about them.

How about Shirako in Japan? I've had it, and while I would not regularly consume it, its popular enough in Japan...

COUDERSPORT, Pa. -- Police in north central Pennsylvania say they've solved the case of the missing bull semen.

Police in Sweden Township, near Coudersport, Potter County, say the package containing liquid nitrogen and 1,770 units of the bull semen were reported missing from a residence where it was to be delivered on April 2.

As mentioned before, for those who eat sushi, many rolls are covered in fish roe. Roe is basically ripe egg masses of fish. Pretty gross if you think about it but they sure are delicious.

Having said that, i leave the horse semen shots to those far more culturally diverse than myself.

I was grossed out when I read this thread after it took a month or more to open. Now, I follow a tweet from Men's Health that leads me to a natural energy drink, if you're willing (or something like that). ANyway, it was the horse semen shots. How gross! No, I don't dare. Flavored, or not.
