This is a report from a stay I had 2/27-2/28 after a UA VDB

Location: The hotel is located on Old Tower Road about 5 or so miles from DEN off Pena Blvd (before it meets I-70). There are numerous other hotels around this area including a few Marriott properties, a Super 8 and a HIX behind the hotel. There are also restaurants in walking distance, though I did not note any of their names.

Hotel: The hotel is a modern building and felt very much like the new HI image the brand is striving for. The lobby was large and the bar/restaurant was nice with an impressive beer selection and a good menu. The corridors were wide with new carpeting, lighting was good throughout, there was plenty of parking and a nice 24 hour business center off the lobby.

Check-In: I arrived with a ton of people who had either VDBed or misconnected all off United so there was a line to check-in. Also, as the evening shuttle is shared with several other hotels, the bus was crowded and took a while to find me. However, the front desk agents were very efficient and got us going quickly and yet managed to be friendly throughout. I felt badly for them as several people who had misconnected were hostile over the issue of giving them a credit card.

Room: I ended up with a King Room on the 3rd floor that was unfortunately, also a handicapped room. While the room itself was nice with a large desk, comfortable bed and new flat screen TV, I managed to flood the bathroom during my shower and had trouble with the detachable shower head. Also, the water never got hot. I do like the HI touch of having a pillow marked "Firm" and one marked "Soft".

Check Out/Other: It seems in the morning the shuttle is often crowded going back so initially I was going to take a cab. However, they found room for me on the 6:30 AM shuttle. When I thought I was going to have to take a cab, I went to use the lobby ATM only to find it was out of order. I asked the desk agent where an ATM was and he told me "oh ours doesn't work because the bank it was from went out of business. My manager needs to get rid of that". I found that rather odd.

Overall, this was a nice hotel and I would happily stay here again.

I've stayed at the HIX myself. The properties are always crowded.

If you are not looking for room service, I would go with the HIX.
Slightly larger rooms and free breakfast (of course).
Shared shuttle is always tough from there, they do pool. I have had the front desk clerk drive me over (once).

If you do not have airline status, the security lines at DEN can be daunting. Always allow an extra 30 minutes to return your car and get a shuttle if you are renting.
