Are you aware that any Choice points you get now will expire at the end of Dec 2013, and you can't extend that no matter what you do?

If all you get this account for is e-rewards, will you ever get to enough points to redeem for anything before they expire?

It doesn't seem to me that, because of the unavoidable (not avoid through "activity", like at most other hotel programs) expiration, Choice is not a good program for very slow earning from something like eMiles or eRewards, if that's all you use it for. By the time you build up almost enough points to use for something, your older points will start dropping off.

Meanwhile, if you can do just two Choice stays in the next couple months, you'll earn so many points (8000 total) that it'll override any lack of a signup bonus. The sizeable bonuses in Choice are from a few cheap stays now and then, not from non-stay activity. (This is different than some airlines which gives out bonuses left and right for oodles of different partner activities, so that you can earn tons of miles without ever acutally flying them. And like most hotels, most airlines don't have "hard" expiration, ie with "activity" you can keep your miles from ever expiring.)

thanks for the rundown of the advantages and disadvantages, the expiration is good point.

I was looking at the conversion rate and if I am not mistaken for 5000 Choise points one can get 1000 airline miles.

But did you look at the conversion terms & conditions?

My understanding is that you can only convert to airline miles if you've either have the credit card or had a points-earning hotel stay "recently" (a year or two). Otherwise I don't think you can convert, no matter what the rate is!

So again, it's only worth it if you're either going to get the credit card or you're actually going to stay at Choice hotels once in a while.

Meanwhile, that's a standard but not great rate. Much better is the one over at WyndhamRewards, where 8000 WR points converts to 3200 airline miles. But I don't know whether you can turn your eRewards into that. (Note: That's a better transfer rate, but only if the earning rate is the same. WyndhamRewards works better for those who earn from credit card only, not stays. But CHoice works better, despite the worse transfer rate, if you do stays, because Choice has great "rich" promos on stays all the time, while Wyndham Rewards has few and far between and most are not nearly as good.
