I fly into BKK on TG 635 in C that arrives at 10.50pm and I have a flight out the next day on TG 471 in F that leaves at 7.45am. What are my options to not travel too far and still get some sleep?

I recall reading in a post that the First Class lounge has day rooms. One poster said they had the room for 12 hours. I don't know if the lounge is open 24 hours. If I run across that post, I will link it here.

I stayed at this hotel in December 2007 for a night on a stop from Phukhet to Bali. At the time it had free transportation. The room was clean and had a small refrigerator. The room was air conditioned, but the private bathroom was not. It worked fine for a night. The room was new at the time. Having just stayed 7 nights on the Executive Level at the Phuhket Hilton, it was a decent stay for a night. You could see the planes in flight immediately after take off. It was fairly close to the airport.

I would check the comments on this hotel on TripAdvisor.com.

ps - State College - I understand the big activity there is "cow tipping." I am originally from Pittsburgh, and went to Pitt for 8 years.

On that schedule I think I'd consider the airside transit hotel:

As you will see from other postings, the immigration at BKK has been pretty horrendous recently. The transit hotel is nothing special, and not particularly good value either, but in this case I think the overall experience would be less stressful.

Lots of hotels not far from the airport. Check out the thread in the Thailand forum. You should be able to get a reasonable room. Others still recommend going into town, but that is a preference, not a requirement.

I decided to change my flights and give my self a few days in BKK. Seems like a waste not to!

It is one of the few cities where a 5* hotel with all the trimmings is within the reach of the average flyer. It still staggers me when I see the big Rollers, Beamers and Mercs on the tarmac, I have been tempted more than once to hop into one to get me to the airport in style:D
