Happy 4th of July!

I had previously booked a GLON award for the Cancun Hilton before they went up and I have now booked award tickets on US and used the 60K FC awards and avoided the security fee. The international desk was very efficent and got a seat freed up on one leg from inventory and she understood my desire to avoid the Shuttle 320s.

What other things can anyone suggest to cockroach my way on freebies or too cheap to pass up. I am not renting a car so there goes one opportunity. Actually pretty satisfied so far but the trip is a long time away. Just proud of myself I guess. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Using 120K miles for two FC tickets that last about 2.5 hours each way and you are PROUD?

Have you learned nothing? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/tongue.gif

p.s. I just redeposited two 60k FC award tickets to the Carribean when I found $495 B fares (yes, B as in upgradable at the time of purchase). Seats in row 1 confirmed both ways. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I plan to monitor the situation and redeposit if I can get real cockroach fares as the date approaches. B fares? I guess you have money to burn. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Next week I have V biz fares but I have already upgraded on the segment I can.

The way I convinced myself that the B fares were worth it:

1. I'll need the status miles, as will my GF travelling with me.

2. The net "loss" of miles for me would be 127,000 miles - the 120k for the FC tix and the loss of earned miles.

3. With US entering Star, I'll want those miles for Intl. FC to Australia or Europe.

4. They were upgradable at the time of booking so no worries about upgrades. These are honeymoon flights so they really have to be FC right?

5. If someone posted that you could spend just under $1,000 for a US mileage run that would earn you over 120,000 miles, would you do it? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Geo,

Congratulations, did I miss the announcement?

I agree with the calculation of the net lost miles and the opportunities you have with those miles. That's the way I view it.

It's always nice to keep a pad of 200K in the account for 2 FC international awards - just in case. Blowing 60K or 120K to the Carribean is not really worth it since it is really domestic service - especially what it can buy over the Atlantic or Pacific.
