Iberia Airlines Iberia Plus - Why IB use VS lounge at BOS?

So I happen to be being a cheapkate and going BOS-LHR via MAD on IB, well, partly for the saving and partly just for the hell of it.

So IB use the VS lounge at BOS, despite their being a 1W lounge (in the guise of BA) just down the corridor.

Now, I know the BA/IB thing is new and presumably they would eventually rationalise (sad, as I think I prefer the VS lounge here, the BA lounges - J and F - are not exciting).

I know there are some oddities around the place - eg BA use the AF lounge at LIS, What I was more interested in why IB were using VS not BA anyway, before the merger, given the One World brand?

Or is it just a matter of cost - presumably even in 1W they cross charge?

I guess it's due to cost (and unlikely to last long!). 1W members do charge each other for lounge access.

Transfer pricing legislation requires BA, IB and IAG to charge each other an arms length price for all intra group services but obviously it will all stay in one overall P&L.

What times are the BA flights and VS flights compared to the IB flights?

Given the BA lounge is not that big, it might be that the lounge could not cope with IB pax in there at the same time as BA flights. Lounge capacity has to be factored in given the timing of the various flights.

I remember that MH used the BA/QF lounge in HKG instead of the Plaza Premium lounge used by other airlines. However, where the MH pax were in there, there was a lull in BA and QF flights so the lounge was deserted - hence a lower cost to keep the staff busy during off-peak hours

Looks like there are two BA flights at 6:10pm and 8:20pm but there is only one VS flight at 7:45pm. Given a lounge of equal size, looks like the VS one would more more capacity.

I could, but having been in there twice so far this year and it's only March 1st, I can resist the temptation. Anyway, I'm impressed by the VS lounge, as least the food. The music is a bit hip for me, but a change is as good as a rest.

There are two BA flights of an eve, and the BA lounge does seem to get busy but not excessive. The VS one is almost at comfortable limit now (well, we wouldn't like to have to sit next to somoene, would we...). I'll see how full the IB flight is soon, maybe everyone here is off to Spain......

Probably because the VS lounge is far superior to the BA lounges. However with the amalgamation of BA and Iberia then I doubt Iberia will continue to use the VS lounge for much longer.

Maybe they have some outstanding contract with VS to "rent" the lounge service for its PAX

Well after the suffering that VS pax have had over the years at BOS (especially the EI 'lounge' which only just fits the definition of the word) I wasn't surprised that VS invested in a lounge of their own. The BA lounges can get quite busy especially just before 212 is due to leave when you have most of the 214 pax and the 212 pax in the lounge.

Its a pity the lounges in BOS arent at a level with a view over the runways. Hate rooms with no windows.

There's only one lounge at 'E' with windows let alone a view over the runway as I understand it, and it isn't a OW airline so don't expect another flying with another carrier to help much.
