Brazil - New sources for foreign exchange in Brazil

Last week it was announced that Post offices and lottery offices would be permitted to deal in foreign exchange up to US$3000 accepting both notes and traveller checks as well as international transfer. The permission was effective on the 24th Of February. The offices are permitted to do it, but not required to do so.

This is being done to open up availability for tourists and to increase competition. Because each office still must establish the banking connections to conduct the operations there will probably be some time before one can actually use the new services.
