USAir Resumes Dropped Shuttle Flights
Wednesday May 28, 1:56 pm ET
NEW YORK (Reuters) - US Airways Group, the No. 7 U.S. airline, said on Wednesday it will resume flights on its hourly East Coast shuttle service that it had discontinued in April due to lower demand.
US Airways, which won court approval to emerge from bankruptcy in March, said it will resume flights at 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. between Boston, New York and Washington, D.C., marking a return to hourly service on its weekday shuttle flights.
Shuttle flights between the East Coast cities are popular with business travelers, and US Airways said it was reinstating the service to remain a leader in that business.
Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL - News) and AMR Corp.'s (NYSE: AMR - News) American Airlines also compete in the East Coast shuttle market, where traffic has sagged as the economy sputters.
With the restored flights, US Airways will run 15 roundtrip flights weekdays between New York and both Washington and Boston, and 14 roundtrip flights between Washington and Boston.
