US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - When do they give in-flight service?

I flew DCA-TYS and back in this past week stopping in Charlotte both ways. Unfortunately, I was stuck in Y on the DCA-CLT and back. I flew Express CLT-TYS. On the way down, I got drinks from DCA-CLT, but not CLT-TYS. Returning, I got drinks TYS-CLT, but not CLT-DCA. Is there any logic to when they serve me in-flight drinks? All I wanted was cranberry juice! Is that too much to ask?
Yeah, I've noticed that myself. During the five minutes of pre-flight briefings about everything from life vests to cell phones, they won't tell you if there will be a beverage service. You get to figure it out once the flight is over. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif
If you ask me, it's not the beverage and snack itself -- I can live without that for 45 minutes. What I find idiotic is to have a flight attendant but no in-flight service. If you're not going to provide in-flight service, replace the flight attendant position with "safety officer" and pay a commensurately lower salary. Sort of like deadheading crew between take-off and touchdown.
