I know this seems off topic, but I promise its not -

Is there anyway as a US Preferred to get upgrades to E+ on a UA flight (non-codeshare) beofre check in? Is this something a US Preferred agent can do? I suspect not, but I thought I would ask if anyone has experience in this realm.

I've been trying to call the UA reservation line to see about this for several days, but whenever I get to the point where I am going to be transfered to a human, I end up with a busy signal.

I am going to try at check-in today - this is my first UA flight since Preferred status started being recognized - the others were in Jan/Feb.

Any advice from anyone?

Thanks,

Mike

Upgrades on United flights on day of departure only, regardless of whether your ticket has a United flight number of a US Airways codeshare flight number.

You'll need to buy United E-Upgrades to upgrade; US Airways E-Upgrades won't work.

You need E-Upgrades for Economy + seating too? I thought they were just for First.

Thanks,

Mike

E+ is for the asking for a US preferred, if available they will assign you a seat. Upgrades are only needed for first not E+.

If you book yout UA flights on ual.com, the system will assign you seats in the E+ section, if available, once you enter your US Dividend Miles number.

If you use the Easycheck-in kiosks, you can change your seat to one in the E+ section, if available.

I'm positive that if you manage to speak with a human on UA's reservation line, you can also get them to assign you an E+ seat.

It's been my experience that your DM status is fully recognized by UA's "computers".

Sorry, to me "upgrade" refers to the next class of service and E+ is technically not an "upgrade" from regular United coach. I didn't read your post carefully enough; sorry.

You are entitled to confirm in advanced an Economy Plus seat as a US Airways Dividend Preferred. Keep on calling United until you finally get through. As a tip, I'd suggest that you try other lines too, even if they aren't applicable to you (like international reservations, awards, etc.), and, if that gets you an agent, apologize, explain that you punched the wrong key, and offer her to transfer you to the coach desk. I can virtually guarantee that he/she will help you with your simple request.
