The June Attache is out... Dave's column is focused on fares. He blathers on endlessly justifying the current state of affairs but stick with it. At the end he claims that he's charged his fares people with finding a solution.

It would probably be prudent to have a firm grip on your wallet but maybe, just maybe, this is a signal that they're finally coming to their senses.

He can't do anything. Looking on the various search engines, I see Delta (Song)undercutting JetBlue. Now the low cost carriers are cutting each other's throats. These airline guys eat their young. About all they can hope for is the occasional poor slob that has to buy one of those thousand dollar fares to Toledo, for a day trip. That's why they have them.

America West has done it. And it seems to be working in spite of a concerted effort by the majors to bury them for it.

SWA sells a higher percentage full fares than anyone -- the reason? Their full fare isn't 10x the cost of their average fare.

He spent a lot of effort in his column trying to justify the fare structure on the basis of the supposed time sensitivity of business travelers (both in terms of last minute meetings and frequent service to low volume destinations.) Given that logic you'd think that flights to hubs would be darned near free...
