And I'm going 330 miles each way, and it's costing me $380 each way..

And they wonder why business travellers use what used to be FFer tricks to save money.

Almost drive-worthy. Doesn't sound like you used any tricks (yet) on this one....what's your itinerary?

I am driving down to Norfolk (PHL was a good guess http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif) for the future trips I take down there because I refuse to be held hostage by USAirways, but this was a quick turnaround which can't justify the drive.

You could probably get a charter for not much more (like a Piper Cheyenne or Navajo twin turboprop). That trip would take a little over an hour in one of those birds. If there are several of you, you'd definitely save $$ for a short trip like that on a charter.

There are numerous comapnies that serve the outlying airports in the PHL area, so you wouldn't even have to go to PHL airport if there's another airport near your home.

Go to airnav.com to look up your nearest airport and then see what operators are on the field....

You might try the old CLE/CAK shuffle for ORF fares. CAK will get you airtran (who flies to PHF--Newport News) and Southwest flies from both CLE and ORF.

My company and I does not have that much love for each other that I'm doing the Cleveland shuffle for this. On top of that to go to Cleveland - 2 hours. To drive to Norfolk - 7 hours.

I'm the sole "Burgher on this project so charter won't fly right. Driving is fine for me, I get reimbursed for the miles and the route isn't too bad for one trip out and one trip back, and (cheap) weekend trips while I'm there at relatively price-competitive ORF.

As per geo, I figure that with interest you owe me at least a week's worth of value meals. Wait much more longer and I'll have an all expense paid trip to RDU http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Not to mention the minute you move to North Carolina their hockey team collapses from Stanley Cup finalists to not in the playoffs... <grin>

I finished my first roundtrip on USAirways. Each ticket was one-way (oooh) and was a total of 320 miles for $380 dollars. I had the pleasure of sitting in cramped coach, after just flying United (also for the first time in three years) and sitting in economy plus, and before that flying American and sitting in MRTC, both on MUCH cheaper tix.

The flight was a 737 with no more than 20 people on board and 1 person in first class. Another person was upgraded to first class right before my eyes because she schmoozed the F/A not due to status or upgrades or anything like that. I'm pretty confident I paid double, triple, quadruple what they did and sat in coach.

Looking around I had that feeling that my ticket was paying for the variable costs of flying this plane, and after 1 hour and a bag of peanuts and a glass of sprite, $380 was spent.

Same story on the way back, except this time there was maybe 40 people on the flight. I would have never believed myself but USAirways has dropped on my list of carriers to fly past United, so I am absolutly sure now that the world is going to end http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

In the end, over $700 later I received transportation for 680 miles, 2 glasses of coke and 2 bags of peanuts and 1000 FF miles. I didn't check any bags, and I checked in online. What a deal!

Flying Delta next week, let's see if USAirways can get pushed further down my list of preferred carriers! It's been a long fall down from three years as Chairman's Preferred! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

That seems like a fair price for a Y fare. I just paid $771.00 on NW for a one way 220 mile flight, CWA to ORD. Now that is highway robery. It is unfrotunate that the business traveler needs to make up so much so the leasure travel can get good deals especially on non-peak timesd
