US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - Anyone else have a "Bonus Bar" installed on their computer?

For several days now I've been plagued by a "Bonus Bar" popup window that launched whenever I opened a browser session. It asked for a username (filled in) and a password (no idea).. but you had the option to cancel it for this session, which I always had to do to get past it.

Today I finally decided to figure out what the @*#@ this thing was and get rid of it. Searching properties on the popup revealed that the verisign cert was issued to Advantex.Com - which I find after going to their URL is a marketing channel for USAir. Going to the USAir website I find a handy link to uninstall it (or install it if you like).. apparently it's designed to 'conveniently' track your bonus miles if you shop at one of their e-tailer partners.

Problem is - I never chose to install the blasted thing in the first place!

Anyone else have this thing auto-installed somehow?

When you agree to certain terms and conditions on websites, sometimes you agree to having junk (like a menu bar) automatically installed on your mailbox. You can download a program called spybot on to your pc and run it. Spybot will find all of the spam and tracking programs on your hard drive and it will give you the option to delete it. I used this and it removed a ton on junk from my hard drive and all of the menus and pop-ups went away.

As far as getting this thing from usairways.com, I have yet to receive it.

Good luck.

The Bonus Bar is for Dividend Miles Online Shopping. I have it installed on my home computer in Internet Explorer (I think it only works with IE), but only turn it on by going to "view", "Explorer Bar", "Advantex Bar" (I think that's it, not on that computer right now so can't check) to turn it on when I'm shopping at Amazon.com (that's about the only site I use DM Shopping on), then turn it off again when I'm done ...

I've never seen this tool try to install itself, but who knows ...
