Do the Plaza premium lounges care what airline you fly? Eg if you present a Amex Aeroplan Plat will they expect you on an AC ticket or will a WJ ticket be accepted?it's been established that Amex Aeroplan Plat does get into the Plaza lounges just wondered specifically on a WJ ticket.

Nope you're free to enter but as a side note the Aeroplan Plat is only accepted at Canadian Plaza Premium lounges only.

Thanks! Was only interested for using it in YVR so that works out nicely :)

Note that according to the Plaza website, there is a charge for booze
in all 3 Vancouver lounges. :td: Its complimentary in the YYC and YYZ ones.

I might be confused.. but we received terms and conditions the other day for our new Amex Platinum AeroplanPlus card, and it specifically states entry into lounge with any AC ticket.. may just be referring to Maple Leaf Lounges. So for non Premium Canadian Plaza Lounges, you may have to have an AC ticket with your Amex Plat card to enter the lounges.

I was successful entering the Plaza Premium lounge in YVR with a WS ticket. Very nice lounge btw... Obviously no way to gain MLL access on a WS ticket.

That clause is for MLL only. For International Plaza Premium lounges, AE Plat Amex does not grant access (You must have normal Plat).

Funny.. you pay $100 more for AeroplanPlus Plat, and you get less.. I guess you earn 1.5 points after 25K spend though.
Seems less and less attractive to keep AeroplanPlus past the year, unless the spend is higher than $2,000 per month.
Plus no FHR? No lounge access accross the board?
Am I correct? Only two Amex Plat choices in Canada?

Yup, but it's the way it is. The Plaza Access for AP Plat is actually an unofficial benefit. No FHR and no access to US Airline Lounges, you do get the same Priority Pass fee waived but it's still $27/person to enter a lounge.
In terms of personal cards yes, only Platinum and AP Platinum.
However I'm assuming part of the reason is because they need to pay AC more for the benefits.

You mean the free access to MLL lounges?
The companion ticket is the same with the normal Plat and the AeroplanPlus Plat..
So.. must be the extra points after $25K spend thats the grab.. to get AC to agree to something like that.
Wouldn't it make sense to make available FHR to AeroplanPlus Plats as well?
But, then again, I don't see how my Gold Amex gets double miles on gas, groceries, and travel, and the Costco Amex TE gets 3% back on restaurants, 2% on gas.. maybe playing a bit of averages.

I was referring to like Delta, American, etc...
I guess it would probably be easier if they had the same benefits but they are from 2 different card lines.
NOT true.

Ok, do you happen to have a thread confiming this? If so I stand corrected. However it still is not an official stated benefit from AMEX.
I tried searching briefly but didn't come up with much so maybe you can help out :)

Odd that there is two different card lines..
Good that a few FTers have both plat cards for one annual fee of $499.. that's two short hauls..
Will need to inquire once my first year is out..

Search the AC forum. There are numerous threads about MLL vs Amex/Plaza premium lounges.
There is a big sign at the entrance listing many Amex cards - including both plat amex

Pretty much all of them are talking about YYZ/YVR which is unofficially allowed (Plaza chooses to accept the under the agreement). I was referring to International Plaza Lounges (i.e. Singapore, Hong Kong, etc...).
My understanding is only the regular Platinum will get you in. US Based AMEX Platinum's do not get access to International Plaza lounges either but can gain entry into YYZ/YVR (again unofficial benefit).

Sorry. I misunderstood. Thought you were referring to plaza lounges in the intl terminals in Canada.
I have no experience w/ the lounges you are asking.
Good luck

No worries!
I can see how you misunderstood me, the way it was written could have been interpreted as International Terminal (my mistake).
