I've never been to Santiago, but will be there for a couple weeks in April. As the sun goes down, before dinner, I like to sit outside minding my own business, reading, possibly having a decent libation and smoking a great cigar. Here in So. California it's been more and more difficult to do so outside of my own back yard with prohibitions in lots of local city laws. Last month I was in Bangkok and even saw NO SMOKING signs everywhere in parks and outside patios.

Anyone know the rules for Santiago? I don't want to interfere with anyone else and their right to being free from smoke, but I would like to exercise my end of day habit. We'll be staying in the Providencia section of Santiago. Can I light up at a park bench or outside patio?

Chile is still very much a smoking culture especially among the young though a restaurant law requiring separate sections was passed a few years back. IOW, in your private space or a non-prohibited public space (I'd say 80%+), you are free to light up. In fact, you will see many smoking while walking along crowded avenues on the public sidewalk.
