Which room did you book and which room did you receive?
Booked standard King - received an upgrade to an Executive King room
How are the rooms?
Very nice. The hotel only opened in October 2010, so the room still looked and smelt new. The room was of a decent size, with a large and comfortable bed, modern furnishings, small table and chairs, work desk and white leather chair. The bathroom was of a good size with a full bath, as well as a separate shower and wet area. The TV was rather bizarrely framed by a picture frame. Quirky I guess.
There was also a refreshment area with complimentary still and sparkling water, tea, coffee, hot chocolate and a couple of packets of biscuits.
Some photographs of the room can be found here. (http://www.flickr.com/photos/14745491@N06/sets/72157625972067081/)
How is the exec. lounge?
Nothing at this property.
What was good, what was bad?
Good:
The property is a modern renovation of a 1960s extension to the old stately home. Overall the renovation has been done very well, looks very modern and is well furnished throughout the property.
The hotel is in a lovely location, surrounded by lovely grounds, with opportunities for walking and leisure. It is also a good place to base yourself if you need to be in Oxford or Oxfordshire.
The staff were friendly throughout, but clearly some service issues (see below)
We had booked on an advanced purchase rate of £55 per night including breakfast. The breakfast buffet had a reasonable selection and was served in The Brassery restaurant. For the price, the hotel delivered extremely good value.
Bad:
Service was consistently below par. No members of staff were seen in the Mezzanine restaurant area in the 15 minutes we were sat there waiting for service. Eventually I had to go to the front desk to request for them to find a member of staff, who took another 5 minutes to come. The service when received was friendly, but not of the standard you would expect.
Food quality in the restaurant was below par as well. My wife ordered a club sandwich, which was missing half the ingredients listed on the menu. My meal was missing some vegetables. What they did deliver was fine, just not quite what was promised.
Value for money?

For the price, the hotel delivered extremely good value, especially as this stay was for our last CtC night. A nice 83k bonus is on the way as a result.
Will you return?
Definitely if we are in the area, especially if we could get a similar price again.
