Can i book cx award first without miles?
Usually i booked cx award first and on hold
and then i transferred my credic card points to asiamiles account
to redeem the award.
But today i called asiamiles
he said i need to have miles in the account to book and hold the award.
Do they change the rule recently?
Thanks

Try calling again and speaking to another agent. Maybe you will get another answer

they are so inconsistent i dont know what the rule is anymore.
since it's so grey then you should just hang up and ask soemone else. the max i've had for a ticket 3mths+ away is a 1 mth deadline. that should be enough for most card to account transfer...

The new rules is that one must issue the ticket immediately if the miles are there. And if they're not there, they won't book the reservation for you. They have done away with the hold period as far as I know.
In one way its good. So that seats won't be taken up by people unecessarily.

Yea, that's a good point. After reading the post by the OP I wonder how many people just put awards on hold but ultimately didn't redeem.

They did a short hold when I upgraded my wife a month ago. The underlying booking was there, but I could not ticket yet. I called to confirm immediately after I ticketed.
CX may still allow a short hold for upgrade redemption in such a case.

My recent experience is they held the award booking for me without having the miles I needed and say I MUST issue the award ticket within two days. This is the new rule I was told.......

I was curious about this so I asked the friendly agent when I called MPC tonight. She told me they will certainly still hold if I want to do that (I don't since I have all the miles I needed), and she told me as far as she knows the time limit is 48 hours from the time of award being held.
