For my 100th post I want to give a shout out back home! I love you Whitefish, miss EVERYONE and hope to be back sometime VERY soon ! ! !

For anyone looking for a great winter or summer getaway, you MUST try and charm, appeal and affordability of Whitefish, Big Mountain, Glacier Park and the Flathead Valley.

Nice 100th post ^ My only experience with Montana has been riding the Empire Builder through it and hopping off for a little fresh air at various stations. From what I saw, Western Montana looked gorgeous.

That was, of course, before you were born?

Montana is beautiful! My husband went to college there and we pass through the state whenever we drive to my in-laws. Great place to vacation!

So we are planning to go to Glacier Park beginning in mid June but someone also suggested Kootenay in Canada. Who has been and how would you compare? We have about two weeks and are starting in Boise and flying out of Spokane or Calgary. Just in the initial stages of planning. Suggestions?

Kootenay is to Glacier what a Honda Accord is to a Rolls Royce. If it's one or the other, don't even spend 10 seconds deciding. Kootenay is right next to Banff, which is almost as nice as Glacier, but IMO not quite there.

From Spokane I'd suggest driving up to Banff via Kooteany. This way you see Kootenay but don't make it your actual destination. Then from Banff, go to Glacier. You can do all that in 2 weeks easy.

I went to Banff last fall and did just that. Stopped for a night on the way to Banff in Radium Hot Springs. This is right at the entrance to Kootenay and has a really cool natural hot spring pool just inside the park.

It gets really crowded in the are during the summer. I'd suggest you go either before June or in late September. The weather on both ends of the summer will be chilly, but still nice. When I was there last fall it was in the 50s during the day and 30s at night.

If you golf, play a course in Banff, you won't be disappointed.
