Budget - Experience with buying "upgrades" in Tampa (TPA) or elsewhere???

Howdy,

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with Budget in the following scenario: Book a full size, get to the counter, ask if they have anything nicer/cooler/etc for a fee?

I've done this at TPA before at the Hertz counter and got a Mercedez for $20 more than my full size rental, which I took. I'm booked in a full size at TPA with Budget this time and was just curious if anyone had any experience with the sort-of "buy-up" upgrades, what might be offered, what I might have to pay, if it even exists with Budget, etc.

Thanks in advance.

Budget at MCO will definitely charge a similar fee (or more) if you ask the same. What I didn't like at MCO recently was the clerk's attempt to stick me with a down-grade without a discount. I was supposed to get a Pontiac G-6 and he wanted to give me an older Focus or a Hyundai. Plus to make matters worst, I wanted to decline the liability insurance for the simple reason that I have at least 2 major credit cards that already give me more coverage than Budget ever does. Not counting an excellent personal travel insurancewhich offers the same. I was badgered and argued with for 15 minutes by a really unpleasent clerk who wouldn't let me leave with my car unless I sisgned. Saying I would break the law if I left with the car. So, because I was running late for a meeting, (not his fault but the Airlines's) I initialed the document and left. Vowing never to rent from Budget at MCO again. Upon returning home I verified with my credit card companies, and they both said indeed, that I have no reason to take any liability insurance when renting a car from Budget, or any other company in the U.S. or Canada.
If you have the time, when at the MCO Budget counter, please take the time to read every word on their documents and have sufficient documents of your own to prove what policies you do NOT require. They are shifty, fast-talkers and rude!
