I never travel on USairways anymore and would like to know what options you suggest?

My first choice of airlines (despite turmoil on the board) is to convert them to Delta, if it is possible.

My second choice is to convert them to SPG miles, if it is possible.

Is there a third option that I should consider?

Let me know.

Thanks for your input.

Anthony

You can donate your miles to charity (http://www.usairways.com/dividendmiles/programinfo/charityprogram.htm) or get magazines and such from
Milepoint (http://www.usairways.com/dividendmiles/redeemingmiles/milepoint.htm).

Anthony,

Ignore Upgrade Me's attempt to demonstrate that everything you need to know was learned by other FT'ers in the past. Without good questions like yours, we would have no archives in which to search!!!

You post an interesting question and it is one that warrants visting now that US and UA are so closely alligned and now that US seems to be the next entrant into the STAR ALLIANCE.

While your 12k miles can not be combined with any other airlines miles, you may want to consider the benefits of having a "free" UA/US ticket? Is it possible you may fly enough on US and/or UA to get to 20 or 25K?

I do not know your travel situation, but do not under-estimate the value of a free r/t on the StarAlliance carriers????

Just a little food for thought... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I hope the other answers you get are more helpful than tutorial on how to use a search engine... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif

Thank you for responding to my post.

The answer is that I don't travel very frequently and I am concerened about the miles expiring. I havent been on a UA flight in over 10 years and haven't been on a USairways flight in close to 5 years.

Again, most of my flying which has been very limited to 2-3 trips per year are mostly on Delta based on the location of their hubs as well as the AMEX card benefits.....

Your input is appreciated......

sign up for DM platinum visa (link on US website). you get 7000 bonus miles after first purchase. do this, and spend 1k (or whatever), and you will have 20k which is good for a free off-peak domestic ticket on US. there is an annual fee of $75 (or something like that), but if you cancel shortly after getting the miles you need (which shouldn't take more than a month or 2) you may be able to get a prorata share of that back. even if you don't, it's still a cheap price for a free ticket.

I was in the same position about 4 months ago, I had about 14K orphaned US miles. Idine has put me up to about 19.5K without any problems. Have you thought about something like that? It very quickly has added up to the point where I could get the free ticket with one more meal!!
