Howdy! I am but a Premier with UA and a Silver with US. If I pay for a ticket on United, can I opt for Dividend Miles and, in so doing, earn the 50% Silver bonus as opposed to the 25% Premier bonus?
P.S. Doing the SFO-PIT red-eye tonight as part of the triple miles promo. Sub-$200 fare. On the ground in PIT for three and one-half (3 1/2) hours. Hope to get into US club with pass. Using SWU to fly home. Should net out around 15,600 miles.

Yes, you can credit your miles to DM and receive the 50% bonus for being a silver preferred.

You earn elite status bonus based on the program to which you are crediting the miles.
With regard to the SWU on the return, I'm assuming you are traveling on a US Airways operated flights. If you are on a United codeshare ticket (I'm unclear by your post who issued your ticket), you can only try to upgrade using US Airways upgrade media on a US Airways flight ticketed by United at the gate. However, if you are using your US Airways SWU on the US Airways flight ticketed by US Airways, don't forget to call at midnight the day prior to handle the upgrade.

The only disadvantage with cross posting miles in this case is that you don't accumulate miles in your "upgrade counter".
So let's take the scenario of a 10k mile intl round trip on UA that's posted to US. You would gain 2500 extra miles in your US account but not earn your 4 UA upgrades.

Thanks again for the input. Just back to the Bay Area from my PIT triple mile run. Sorry for the confusion generated by my initial post. My interest in UA metal and Dividend Miles is for a potential future run. Today's run was undertaken due to the triple Dividend Mile bonus. I was on U metal and did use the SWU on the way home this morning. With the exception of no lounge entry while at PIT [expired pass], all went well. I am interested to see the speed with which the bonus miles are posted. Total fare was a tad under $200. AS previously posted, with 3X miles, kiosk check-in at SFO, credit card and on-line booking bonuses, this one (1) nets out at $0.0125/mile.
gnaget - Thanks for the reminder regarding upgrade accumulation.
BizJet - I had the non-refundable B fare. Cool thing is that you can confirm SWU at anytime regardless of status level. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

afrugal - and others -
Note with a B fare you can confirm any kind of upgrade in advance, not just SWUs. So if you have e-upgrades in the bank, a good way to use them.
