US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - Upgrading: A Mystery and a Question

The mystery: for my flight BOS-PIT on Monday 21 Apr (US 49) itn.net shows F7 A7 D7 G7. But my e-upgrade has not cleared (I'm Gold). Has this happened to other people?

The question: Does using Web check-in affect one's standing on the waiting list one way or another? Does it establish your check-in time (which affects position on the upgrade waitlist) in the same way that checking in at the airport at that time would have?

Did you call the GP desk, I see no reason why your upgrade is not processed. That flight is wide open. I hope you didn't try to use the web site to upgrade because it rarely works correctly.

1. The upgrade queue process for SP/GP doesn't work perfectly, because I don't think it gets the personal attention that the CP queue gets. Moreover, I'm not sure how you checked if your upgrade has cleared or not. In my experience, the usairways.com reservations screen will not show any updates (flight changes, new seats, upgrade, etc.) but the VirtuallyThere system (type in PNR and last name on usairways.com home page) does update. Nonetheless, call US Airways Reservations and ask them if you've been cleared, and, if not, if they can clear you.

The question's answer:
Checking-in online does NOT place you on the Airport Standby List for an upgrade. You must request to be added to the test when you check-in with a US Airways agent at the ticket counter, gate, or US Airways Club. However, that list is prioritized not by time added to the list but time checked-in (if you checked in online, this would be the time you checked in online). Thus, online check-in won't ADD you to the list, but once added, the time you checked-in online will determine your priority (outside of status and any other criteria they may use). Thus, you're best bet if you need to standby it for an upgrade is to check-in online at the first available moment at 24 hours, but DON'T FORGET to add yourself to the standby list once you reach a US Airways Airport agent.

I hope this clears everything up for you.

Thanks to both of you for your help!

The VirtuallyThere site does show my upgraded seat assignment. However, on the next leg, for which I have an exit row seat, VirtuallyThere still shows my original seat assignment rather than the exit row which the GP desk assures me I have. Hmmm...

Virtually There doesn't always show the most updated seat assignments. If you use the automated phone system to review your reservation and seat assignments, it will tell you what you actually have assigned.
