Looks like Hawaiian will be adding Auckland to their routes very soon. There has been no formal announcement, however they are hiring a maintenance supervisor in Auckland. It also looks like they would be using their 767-300ER aircraft for this route as it is a requirement for the maintenance supervisor they are wanting to hire to have system knowledge of this type of aircraft.

Here is the link to the job posting on their website https://www3.ultirecruit.com/HAW1000/JobBoard/JobDetails.aspx?__ID=*300C43376C9B210F

Any thoughts?

Currently, HA's heavy maintenance contract for servicing their 767s is in AKL. When an HA 767 is due for heavy maintenance, the plane is put into service from HNL to SYD. Then in SYD, HA has a lease agreement with NZ to fly the 767 in NZ revenue service from SYD to AKL. The plane is then serviced in AKL and then flown back to SYD in NZ revenue service. Then the plane is put back into HA revenue service from SYD to HNL.

So it makes sense if HA might have notions of opening an HNL-AKL route using their 767s, perhaps as a codeshare with NZ. OTOH, if HA retires their 767s, they can still operate this route using their new Airbii. I suspect AKL will be a good addition to HA's network.
