I will be arriving BKK @ 23:45 (UA881) and my connecting flight is 07:40 (TG201).

I am a *G (AC*E) and just wonder if I will be stay 'overnight' for a few hour, catch a short nap etc at

http://www.loungeguide.net/wiki/u/Bangkok_(BKK)_Thai_Airways_Royal_Silk_Lounges_At_C oncourse_C

From that page it said it is open 24 hrs....

And my second question is, what will happen w/ my check in luggage? I guess I will have to pick them up, go thru custom first? Or airport will hold it for my next flight to HKT and clear custom there?

If you ask UA they will say bags cannot be interlined with an overnight stay. In practice, at check in, I've had it done twice (on two attempts).

TG doesn't have any lounges open 24 hours (Louis Tavern, a pay lounge, is open all night) so you'll not be able to sleep there. Lounges close around 1:30 and open around 5:30. You might want to check into some of the cheaper local hotels where, for $25-$50, you can get r/t transpo and a few hours of sleep.

Try the Novotel Airport, I think it may be cheaper than the CIP.

The Louis Tavern is ok. It's a bit expensive & you buy 2 or 4 hours, I think. And they do ask you to leave when your time is up. Of course, you can pay for more. I'd pay for the lounge over the transit day rooms.

It's not the best airport for overnight, but if you watch carefully you may be able to grab a bench of seats to sleep on.

I certainly never made any declaration to it's quality. :D

There is a new Louis Tavern lounge in A concourse and judging from the slightest of glimpses it is more spacious and better looking than the C version. What it's like inside i have no idea.

After the departure tax, it'll probably be more expensive (although collection is usually a hit-or-miss).

(if this is on two separate tickets)

What did you end up doing? I'm going via BKK overnight on a reward F ticket so should be able to crash in any lounge if they are actually open.

Ended up I rerouted to SIN instead and no need to overnight in BKK. :)

TG lounges close at 1:00 and reopen at 05:00.

During the summer when UA departs at 06:00 the TG E lounge was opening earlier. Now that the UA flight is at 07:00 TG are likely back to their normal operating hours.

If you have priority pass you can spend 2 hours in each of the Louis Tavern C and A lounges and then go back to the F lounge when it opens at 5. Otherwise you're SOL.

Technically you can only spend 2 hours. In actuality though you can usually get away with 4 hours. I typically use it for 4 hours and leave on my own will. Only once been asked to leave after the 2 hours was up. I imagine during busy times it will be more strictly enforced, but in the middle of the night when you're all alone or only a few other customers, and just sleeping there, it's not like you're consuming any of their resources.

Twice I've been asked to leave the C concourse lounge when the two hour limit was up. Both times at 3:15AM. Once I was in a deep sleep and have no idea how long she was trying to wake me up.

Two weeks ago with a 2.5 hour mid-afternoon lounge window they didn't bother us.

Go figure.

Well, I've never used the one on the C concourse. I once went in there to inquire about the place, but got some bad vibes from the worker there, and just didn't care for the lounge. All times I've used the one on the G concourse (mainly) and a few times on the A concourse. My last time was two months ago and stayed for 4 hours. It was maybe a year or more ago when I was asked once to leave from the G concourse lounge. I think though that they can just rerun your card again if you want to stay longer. In my case the TG lounge was opening soon so I chose just to leave.

Why not use the hotel inside BKK airport, is is that the same as the Louis Tavern that is mentioned? You can stay o/night...

The dayrooms and the lounges are run by the same company. In the case of the lounges on Concourse F, G, C, it is just the lounge. For Concourse A, there's a lounge and dayrooms together in the same facilities. On Concourse G there are also dayrooms separate from the lounge, and whether or not there's another lounge there at the dayrooms or not, I don't know. I haven't ventured down there for a couple of years.

Anyways, if you have a Priority Pass card, which allows free access to Priority Pass lounges, you can use one of the LT lounges for free. You cannot use one of the dayrooms for free, being they are dayrooms, not lounges. Me being too cheap to pay the 2,800 THB or whatever it is now for only 4 hours of sleep, choose to stay in the lounge for free. I arrive at the lounge about 01:00, or so, being that's the time my incoming flight arrives. stay for 4 hours until 05:00, then head over to the TG lounge and get a shower/change clothes, and eat some breakfast before my onward connection.

I simply don't feel the LT dayrooms are good value for the money, so not just because I'm cheap, but also as sort of a matter of principle, I don't want to pay for the room. Likewise, I think the BKK Novotel is overpriced, so I normally don't give them my business either. If I have much more than 4 hours in transit and want a proper bed to sleep on, I'll head into town and get a hotel where I feel I'm getting good value for my money. I have stayed at the LT dayrooms before when it was the only real option and traveling with others who couldn't use the LT lounge for free. But if traveling alone and given the choice, I'll avoid it.

Oh, I see... We have used the day rooms twice now and found them fine to get a good sleep... Mind, we are normally exhausted from a long haul when we arrive there for a rest!

Unless you think you would enjoy a One Hour Journey to and from the St. Regis..Just stay at The On-site Landside Novotel Airport.

All hotel rooms look the same when you are asleep.

My GF is joining me in SYD for Xmas and she is flying through BKK. She arrives at 920pm in TG C and departs the following morning at 745 the following morning. She would prefer to stay at the Priority Club lounge and I am going to get her a 4 hour room so she can sleep between the closing of the TG lounges.

Do we need to reserve these rooms upfront?

Look at the best western premier amaranth, ~80 or less on expedia and free shuttle to/from airport.

It's priority pass not priority club. Big difference. The cost of 4 hours starts at ~$80US so I'd probably grab a hotel room outside of the airport. For that amount of time it's feasible to head into Bangkok proper even.
