Wow! I did not realize know that. It must continuation more capacity growth. I believe HA has done extremely very well and there goes some more tougher competitions. If there is enough more demands. HA could be next announces more Asian expansions for PEK, HKG, PVG, TPE, SIN, BKK are probably also under consideration. Could HA can have expansions more US mainland routes?

Perhaps, but I wouldn't put much stock in HA expanding its mainland options.

If HA continues expanding internationally to places Americans like to visit, chances are its only competition is an airline (or airlines) based in that country. On the other hand, if HA were to launch long-haul domestic non-stops to the east coast (PHL, NYC, etc.), its competition would be the slew of mainland carriers.

I would venture to say the int'l routes would have higher yields for HA than the much more competitive domestic market.

Welcome to Flyertalk!

Yes, HA can do well with pursuing new routes in the more lucrative international market. However, from this side of the US in the mid-atlantic region and in the northeast region, to get a nonstop or direct flight from this part of the country to Hawaii is really slim pickings. Many carriers currently offer Hawaii service with a million connections in between for a high price. Direct or nonstop service is rare. There is the EWR-HNL nonstop route and the CLT-HNL nonstop route. One route is hampered by air traffic congestion around the airport. The other route is hampered by using old equipment where unscheduled stops on the west coast happen frequently. I think HA will definitely do well with a few nonstop routes from this side of the mainland. They actually know the mainland markets quite well. They have decades of charter service experience all over the country.

HNL-KIX competition will be DL, JL, NH. Both JP and US carriers.
