For my birthday, a pretty large group of friends and I are flying out to Las Vegas to celebrate for a few days over Memorial Day weekend. We're planning on leaving BWI Thursday and returning Sunday. Now, my father also wants to come too, but doesn't want to pay for the expensive flight from TYS. I have a free ticket voucher that I got for taking a bump in December that I want to give him, but there's no availablity for these date using the voucher. Does anyone know of any tricks or have suggestions to get this trip ticketed using the free voucher?

My understanding is that the inventory for the bump vouchers is the same as for the basic 25,000 mile award. You can keep checking online by logging into your DM account at usairways.com and clicking "Redeem miles online for a US Airways award ticket." and try out various city pairs and dates, it will show the same inventory if you use the regular 25,000 mile award for your selection.
Yes - you are correct - this inventory is very controlled.
BUT...
there is a way around it. Find your flights that you want to book, then ask to use the flight credit, the agent wil lsay the flights are not available. Ask to speak to a supervisor, they almost always open up the invetory. Explain like you have in the post, it is your birthday and it owuld be nice if your father could join you. I am certain, a superviosr will open a seat for you.
Leave us a post and let us know how did it go!
Thanks

The inventory also opens up right BEFORE the travel dates, so they are useful for emergencies or "get out of jail free" after a tough week and you just want to go somewhere.

I think you can pretty much go standby using these but I woulddn't try to go standby Memorial Day weekend. You are at the bottom of the list using these vouchers even if you are preferred.

I will let you know how it works as soon as I try it. I'm trying to get the trip finalized for big group, and then I'll try for my dad. He said he's willing to pay, but let's hope he doens't have to.
darn. From the title, I thought you were offering.

For those of you who were wondering, thanks to a lot of effort by Judy at the Washington CTO, I'm able to use the free travel voucher for my dad to join me on my birthday. He's not on the same flights, but it's free. Thanks to her hard work, he'll be joining me.
On another note, if anyone gets the opportunity to use the Washington CTO, I highly suggest it. They're very friendly and more than willing to help with just about anything. I give them all my highest regards.

The 3 Washington airports are DCA, IAD, and BWI.
CTO = City Ticket Office. There are 3 of those too... 1776 K Street NW in D.C., 7475 Wisconsin Ave. in Bethesda, and at the headquarters at 2345 Crystal Drive in Arlington.
