I've heard from Fairmont.. especially Fairmont San Francisco and Boston Copley Plaza.. is checking IATA cards on line..

So for those who is booking travel agent rates and not registered IATA on line, you will be paying Rate of the Day, or whatever is available to the general public at check in.

This is a result of the crackdown on IATA cards being sold abroad.. technically making you a travel agent accessing travel agent rates.. but if you name isn't IATA online, there is a big risk on not having your booking honored. Travel Agent rates are not upgradeable using FPC certs.

Note: Crackdowns includes Military Rates and Omers "NFFR" rates as well.

What are military rates? Are they a separate thing from government rates? If so, how do I check what they are? Would be of some assistance to my stays at Fairmonts but I've found that not many Canadian hotels/chains offer military rates.

Military rates are rates offered to the military. ID is required at check-in, just as a AAA card is required at check-in if on CAA/AAA rates.

Really? Few would've guessed.

CdnFlier asked.

Yes, but itīs quite obvious that CdnFlyer knows that military rates are for military personnel, s/he obviously would like to know some more details about the rate (e.g. rate code, difference between government vs. military rate, if there is a difference etc.), unfortunately I donīt know anything specific about Fairmont military rates, which is why I didnīt respond (something I tend to do if I donīt have anything relevant to say).

Donīt want to sound rude, but it would be nice if the focus in this forum would be on quality/helpfulness of posts vs. quantity of posts.

Obviously, you guys don't get my sense of humor because you guys seem to take yourselves a bit too seriously .. In terms of quality of posts, I've had more PM me thanking me for my contributions to this forum than all of you combined.. In fact I had to erase over 3,000 messages from my private messages box this past year because of the space restrictions.

While you guys twiddle your thumbs and criticize, those who see the forest for the trees have been saving hundreds sometimes thousands of dollars on F&F rates.. Sorry to be rude, but the reason why the F&F deal is still going, is not because I make a commission because I make $0 commission.. it's because FTers like yourself choose to criticize rather than help on this forum.

I donīt have to understand the humorous aspect of post padding, do I? Nevermind, letīs try to go back to the past when we were all nice folks in the FPC forum.

Iīll therefore omit any thoughts I may have about this nonsense:

Post padding?.. Are you talking about tcook052 30K worth of posts?

I've handled more private messages on FT, hundreds of messages through FB, than I have posted on this forum.. and why would I do that?.. again I choose to pass on savings tips and know how to FTers on this forum.. in the face of those who criticize.

Quite right. ^

We can only try...

Hate to break up this love fest but uhh so does anyone know the answer to the actual question I was asking...? I was especially looking for a rate code but if this is something that can only be quoted on the phone so be it.

Beyond that... everyone take a deep breath :)

I will shamelessly post pad and say I have enjoyed this discourse over a morning coffee!

post relleno

Google translate says this means "post padding" in spanish. :D

We should officially make this thread a post padding thread.. quickly.. everyone post 30K of messages, so that we won't have to be criticized by a travel agent!:) Hurry, before the moderators catch us doing so.

Military rates are usually quoted over the phone.. however I've seen Military Packages at Jasper Park Lodge before.. as well as myriad of hundreds of different packages, including senior rates, discounts, Alberta residence, Entertainment.. you name it. If you qualify, instead of googling for rate codes, phone up Fairmont and they will help you.. all rates are at their finger tips except Manual NFAF.. because that's supposed to be secret.

Why make it official when you do it so well unofficially?

I would not have guessed that you considered it so, given how much you have promoted it here over the last year.

Thanks for the answer, will give Fairmont a ring, just a hassle having to call. Good on them for having military rates.

Now you can all get back to post padding and everything else that's being argued about :)

Granted tone is hard to accurately decipher over email or web forums...but I get the impression that you are implying that being criticized by a travel agent is somehow different or worse than being criticized by anyone else. Or worse yet, that travel agents are not to be respected.

Notwithstanding, Tcooks lengthy history of contributions to FT and that the relevance of someones profession to this thread is not apparent to me, I suggest a little more respect be shown here.

I have very little respect for tcook.. he'll have to earn my respect. His Googling, cut and paste post padding IMO goes against Terms of Use on FT.. but, I'm not a moderator so I'll leave it up to them to interpret the rules.

I have very little respect for tcook..

And this kind of attitude is exactly the issue. Iīm pretty sure he couldnīt care less whether you like him or not, but the fact you repeatedly show your disrespect in various posts certainly doesnīt enhance this forum/FT. Why donīt you just ignore him?

His Googling, cut and paste post padding IMO goes against Terms of Use on FT..

If he only posted random articles Iīd probably agree with you. However, Iīd say he has a solid understanding of the travel industry and mostly posts relevant articles. As I donīt have the time to follow various media outlets, I appreciate his posts, especially those in the Fairmont and Air Canada forums... and Iīm pretty sure Iīm not the only FTer who appreciated his presence on FT.

Again, if you donīt care about his threads, why donīt you just ignore them?
