I am flying to Colombo soon and I was planning to buy a ticket to Delhi with BA or Air India and connect there with Sri Lankan Airlines on a different ticket/reservation number.

As I don t want to go through Immigration in Delhi (I have only one entry more left in my double entry Indian VISA which I am planning on using in May), I was wondering if there is a transit desk or something similar for all airlines.

I know Jet and Air India has one when you transfer from International to International where they will give you your boarding pass and check your documents before going through security and into the departure gates but not sure what is the story for smaller non-Indian carriers like Sri Lankan.

I am looking at the option of checking in online. However I wanted to know if it is possible (if I cannot check in online - Sri Lankan Airlines said it was not a problem) to get a boarding pass in the transit area. I know this type of facility is provided in Delhi for connecting passangers continuing in 9W or AI. I doubt it is the same for Sri Lankan or other non-Indian carriers but it is worth asking just in case

I will also take my carry-on so no need to check bags

Thanks

IIRC, some other posters in this forum have done this and also managed to get their bags transferred from A - B airline..

That's only going to be if the two airlines interline and your segments are on the same PNR.

Or else chances are your bags will get offloaded in DEL and you have to clear immigration simply to pick your bags up from the carousel and then check back into your sri lankan flight. [which may or may not allow e-checkin, and if its on a separate pnr the gate agent at your starting point wont be able to check you into that]
