I am looking at flying RT between SIN-SYD or SIN-MEL. It is a LOT less expensive to fly SIN-Australia with Jetstar and Tiger, etc than flying WT+ on BA, BUT ...

I usually fly BA WT+ and have lounge access because of Silver status BAEC. I use the lounge to rest and have a drink or 2, however, with cheap Jetstar and Tiger seats that is not going to happen. The money saved on the SIN-Australia can be used for a BA flight to LHR in WT+ :-)

How can I access lounges in SIN, SYD and MEL? Are there payments that can be done - like with AC Maple Leaf lounges, OR are there other alternatives.

Priority Pass or the like - they have several in SIN and use the UA lounge in MEL.

Only lounge they have in SYD is domestic (DJ)

There are lounges in SIN that let you pay to enter.

There are no lounges with paid access in SYD (international terminal) except for the Virgin Blue lounge in the domestic terminal, so my advice would be to fly SIN-MEL instead. There's the Priority Pass access through UA's lounge in MEL (international terminal) but you'll need to check their opening times.

Flying Y with Jetstar or Tiger is nothing like flying BA WT+.

With Jetstar you could:

1) Buy StarClass - which is probably more like Y+ than true J (despite what Jetstar claim) - this will give you Lounge Access, though the cost is significant over Y but alot less than QF or BA Y+

2) Buy (Annual) Qantas Club membership - though this will duplicate your BA Silver access benefits when flying QF, BA or AA with respect to lounge access, this will probably still price out cheaper than the differential in a rtn StarClass ticket if you can purchase via a Corporate Scheme.

Otherwise - you get what you pay for!

And at least some of them are not very good. Have used the showers at Ambassador T3 via Priority Pass on account of Singapore Star Gold notnhaving any showers, and I am afraid I would not pay for the ATL if I was in the habit of praying for lounges (which I am not). Very small and cramped, food but no free alcohol. And any lounge which tries to give you a sticker on entry... needless to say mine went in the bin. Showers were ok though, more room in the shower suite than in the lounge proper. Previously have used Ambassador in T1 a few years ago and was not brilliant either.

If you do not have status the rooftop swimming pool at Sin T1 is a good destination pre flight or if you are on a long flight stopping over.
