is there a way to utilize these when booking on line? (in my case, specifically related to corporate discount).

In general, corporate goldfile discounts cannot be booked online or thru reservations. Inactive/former employees of the firm holding the goldfile number would then be able to use the discount (which for us is in excess of 30 percent). The US1 desk will, if you get the right person, reprice an existing reservation using the goldfile number if you make a change to it, but they won't book a wholly new itinerary using the discount.

NOTE - I think some "small business" discounts are bookable online, but I'm not familiar with the small business program US has in place. Also, this could easily be solved if US recorded each company's valid IP address range. Then, as long as you login from a computer with an IP address in that range, the goldfile number could be applied. :-)

If you click the 'more options' button on the main usairways.com screen, you will see at the bottom of the page the choice of putting in a promotion code, followed by selecting from a pull-down menu of discount types: Corporate Discount Program, Meetings & Conventions, and Corporate Dividends Program.

My own employer has a GoldFile number with USAirways, but we aren't set up to use the web site. We need to call our corporate travel agent. But, I've also been able to call reservations and make a reservation with the GF number - whether it's new or modifying an existing one. But, we're allowed, as employees, to use make reservations for personal or business travel with that number, so I guess it doesn't matter if I'm doing it through the agency or directly.

That's interesting, as US told us we are no longer allowed to let employees book personal travel using the corporate discount. So, they setup a separate goldfile number with a maximum 5 percent discount. Regardless, any fares lower than M are no longer eligible for the corporate discount anyway, no matter what goldfile number we use.

We, too, had our discounts relegated to just M and above. It was great when we got 35% off of K fares. I was regularly getting PHL-LAX for $179-$219. Oh well. But we still are able to call and make our own reservations and get the personal discount. I guess it all depends on what the individual company negotiates with the airline.
