South - Getting to MSY on Mardi Gras morning, early

Looking for some advice on my first trip to Mardi Gras in New Orleans.

Due to work and cost considerations, I likely can't stay through the big day itself, sad as that is. I'm thinking about departing on a 6AM flight to DC on Mardi Gras morning. I'd be departing from pretty far into Uptown (Magazine and Jefferson area) and hoping to get a cab around 4 or 4:30 AM.

Some friends tell me, however, that A) cabs may be scarce, even if I call way in advance; and B) because of parade routes and early lining up, it may actually be very difficult to get out of the city. Now, as I look at the routes for Zulu and Rex, http://www.nola.com/mardigras/parades/ it seems to me that one could get onto Earhart or 10 without that much difficulty. But I've never been there when the city really shuts down.

So, am I crazy? Or is this doable?

Thanks!

From your location and at that time of the morning, it is VERY doable. You can call one of the suburban cab companies, if necessary. Try Metry Cab - (504) 835-4242.

Thanks for the good advice! Would the suburban companies be subject to the same $33 flat fee?

Probably.
