US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - e-upgrade clarification

View Full Version : e-upgrade clarification

I saw this discussed on the UA board, and I was wondering if what they were saying was true for US as well. I know that for each e-upgrade, it counts for a 500 flown miles. So in theory, for my flight that I'm taking next week for spring break from DCA-PHL-SDQ, if I were to upgrade both segments, I would need 1 for DCA-PHL and 3 for PHL-SDQ (It's a little more than 1500 miles, but within the allowance). However, on the UA board, they were saying that it's straight line distance from Point A to Point C (in this case, DCA to SDQ) which is a little less than 1500. If I can get both upgrades to clear, is the same true on US? Can I just use 3 e-upgrades for the whole trip, or would I need to use 4?

This is correct.

It used to be A-C with the 800's but now they take a minimum of 1 500 per segment.

A minimum of one 500-mile E-Upgrade will debited from a member's E-Upgrade bank per flight segment. Additional E-Upgrades will be required for flights over 500 miles. For example:

Flying from Los Angeles to Washington, DC
via Philadelphia

Flight Segment Mileage E-Upgrades
Los Angeles to Philadelphia
2,401 miles
5 E-Upgrades

Philadelphia to Washington, DC
119 miles
1 E-Upgrade

TOTAL
6 E-Upgrades

This is from the U website.

No Alysia, it's not. Used to be. Wish it still were.

To the best of my knowledge, there is no "allowance" on US, unlike on UA. I believe on UA they'll let you go 50 miles over without requiring an additional upgrade, but I have seen nothing on US Airways' website or elsewhere indicating that this policy holds for US as well. I would love to be wrong about this, though. If I am, someone please correct me-- preferably either by posting a link to the policy or by citing someone's personal experience.

Unless things have changed since my furlough...my E-Upgrade training materials say 25 mile grace is allowed.

Good news: you are mistaken.

In February I flew DCA-CLT-MEM in First. CLT-MEM is 512 miles, but that segment cost me only 1 EGR. In short, the 25-mile allowance sure looks real to me.

That is good news. It would have been better news if it had been a 50 mile allowance (I'm flying a PIT-ATL segment next month, 528 miles), but I'll take what I can get!
