My dad (GP) is going to be bumped down to my level (SP - the horror!) unless he can grab 3 more segments in the Gold Challenge.
This is really not my forte so I promised to ask the experts: you.
Flying out of PHL, he just wants a QUICK and CHEAP way to do this. We appreciate any help you can offer.

I recommend a BWI-LGA-BOS, usually around $120, 4 segments, 4,000 status miles (2,000 towards the challenge). Plus you also pick up 3k UA miles, plus various bonuses for booking online.

OW BWI-PHL-RDU is available for $85 (PHL is a hidden city on that routing) it is often availble with no advance purchase, you can fly it BWI-PHL and throw away the second coupon.
Or you can look at e-savers out of PHL posted each Wednesday and go out Saturday and back Sunday, there is often a $128 or so fare available somewhere. Should be able to pick up 4 segments on an e-saver that has a connection.

Thanks Catwood! I just found a $107.50 fare to BOS for a weekend in Boston. I need the segments since I just became GP on US.

You do realize that "cheap" has no business being in the same sentence as "flying out of PHL" ???
Take the train to BWI. Go anywhere SWA goes. Connect through PHL if you'd like to pour salt in Ben's wounds (and who wouldn't?)
