US Airways Announces 'Peace of Mind' Flexible Travel Policy During Current Period of Uncertainty
Tuesday March 4, 10:25 am ET

ARLINGTON, Va., March 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- US Airways announced today that it has introduced a "Peace of Mind" flexible travel policy to ease customer concerns about making advance reservations during this period of potential conflict in the Middle East.

In the event of military action and/or a Homeland Security Department issuance of a "code red" alert, the "Peace of Mind" flexible travel policy will allow customers to make changes to previously booked travel itineraries without incurring standard change fees. Among the changes that will be allowed are:

-- Full value of unused tickets can be applied to future travel within a
90-day period from the start of the action or "code red" alert
-- Dates of travel can be changed within a 90-day window from the start of
a military action or "code red" alert
-- Destination city can be changed within the same 90-day window
-- En route changes could be made for those customers whose itineraries
have not been completed at the time that the policy is implemented

"Our customers have told us they are concerned about booking future travel during this period of uncertainty," said Ben Baldanza, US Airways senior vice president of marketing and planning. "In response, we have announced the 'Peace of Mind' policy so that travelers can book now with full confidence that they can adjust their plans later if circumstances warrant."

In the event of a military action or issuance of a "code red" alert, US Airways will communicate publicly the effective dates of the "Peace of Mind" policy.

The Peace of Mind flexible travel policy would apply to itineraries booked prior to the start of the action. Under this policy, a one-time change to an itinerary would be allowed, and future travel reservations are subject to availability and applicable fare rules.

US Airways is the nation's seventh-largest airline, serving nearly 200 communities in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Europe. Most of its route network is concentrated in the eastern U.S., where it is the largest air carrier east of the Mississippi. It employs approximately 33,000 people and operates a fleet of 279 mainline jet aircraft. US Airways and its US Airways Express partner carriers operate more than 3,400 flights per day.

Sorry that it took so long to respond to this information but they had to revive me after I read the press release.

US Airways doing something to promote customer spending? A certain Senior VP with positive reinforcement for people to use the airline? (No, I don't buy the argument that they are playing on the public's fears)

What's next? A rational fare structure? One can only hope.

Sheesh. And I remember when you could basically have "peace of mind" all of the time (at least in terms of applying ticket value towards future trips).

Ben is still an @ss. It also presupposes a code red alert, not a war.

Whoop dee doo!

It's a bit like nostalgia -- but instead of seeing the old days better than they really were we get to see the old ways but not quite as good http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif

I've got an idea -- drop the rules and restrictions all the time and see if maybe people might be more interested in flying...

I wonder if this is in response to something I found out the other day at the USAirways Club in PIT!? I am going to LGW at the end of March and I need to go standby on an earlier flight to PHL to meet my friend flying in from DFW. Well, it seems that the flights to PHL on my day of travel are WIDE OPEN......not a single seat sold on them they told me. So it seems I will have my choice of flight and seat to get to PHL earlier.

Again, I wonder if people are worried that the BUSH ATTACK is coming soon or the potential liquidation of US at the end of this month are scaring people away from traveling? HHMMM?!
