We're traveling to Rome in April but could only get to Frankfurt on miles. We had to ticket Alitalia on to Rome. Anyone know if we will be able to check our luggage all the way? Or are we going to have to claim it in FRA and re-check it? Thanks.

If the additional flight to Rome is on the same itinerary (unlikely), then your baggage should be checked all the way to Rome.

If the Rome flight is a separate itinerary, you will probably have to claim your bags in Frankfurt and check in again with Alitalia for the Rome flight.k

Even if the AZ flight *is* on a separate itinerary you should be able to show the ticket for the AZ flight and get them to check your bags straight through. I've flown several times PHL-FRA on US, and FRA-BOM on DL and they've had no issues checking the bags through.

Call and make sure there's an interline baggage agreement US/AZ but there should be--they used to be partners for God's sake.
