US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - Name PIT for Mr. Rogers!!

I want to start a campaign to honor Pittsburgh's great citizen.

If the airport would have to be named after someone, then why not. But I like Pittsburgh International being one of the few airports out there NOT named after anyone. I have even gone as far as written County Executive Roddey about my opposition against this sort of activity when there was talk to name it after Senator Heinz, or as most other people would call us, the ketchup airport.

The person who was the driving force behind the new airport in Pittsburgh made it very clear that he didn't want the airport named after anyone, even himself. That is because when he died, people wanted to name it after him, instead they just named the landside terminal after him.

I hope it will always be Pittsburgh International, plain and simple.

For the story when they tried to name it after Heinz: (of course, he also happened to have died in a plane crash, which made it doubly spooky)

I thought the landside building at PIT is named for Tom Forrester, former county commissioner?

I hope that have some type of tribute for Fred Rodgers but I don't know that the airport is the right one.

The airport has been Greater PIT for too long. Who really calls the Civic Arena "Mellon Arena" except for the media?

Yes, Santorum is from PIT, but we try not to acknowledge that. There won't be any airports/bridges/etc named after him. He's a Republican puppet.

There is a Mr. Rogers interactive display somewhere in the PIT terminal - I think it is in the Gates 70-99 area (where all the "other" airlines are at).

Tom Forester was as much a democratic puppet as Santorum is a Republican puppet. Let's not even go down that road.

There's a display just down the hall towards the C gates, near the children's play area, before the actual gates. I passed it last night after getting off a United flight at C51 (with a twinge of sadness, I might add).

Since you led me down that road..... Rewind to the embarrassing (for PA residents) stance that Santorum took during the Impeachment Hearings. If it wasn't for our other senator taking an actual sensible position, I'd have moved to another state.

I know Santorum, and know that he's a hypocrite.

but I fear that someday the airport will be named, without any public input, for some political hack not nearly as worthy of honor as Fred Rogers.

I agree with you if the airport has to be named after someone, then he is the best person for the job. However, there is still hope.. I know Phoenix Sky Harbor has the same sentiment -- they don't want to rename their airport either, and they've been trying that for a while. Maybe saner minds will prevail and we'll always be the PITs..

A few years ago ERIe International http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/redface.gif Airport was named Tom Ridge Field while he was the Governor.
USAirExpress used to fly PIT-ERI-YYZ so I guess that made it International http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif.
