US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - Award flight reprotection

Next week, I will be flying on a US J award ticket ATL-CLT-SFO-NRT-SIN, with the International legs operated by NW. If I misconnected in SFO (which is a distinct possibility given the 65-minute interline connection), would the US agents reprotect me on another carrier?

I doubt it.
Theorectically, US won't protect you on another carrier on their own award tickets. If you mis-connect in SFO on an award ticket, I would not put it past US to tell you that you are in SFO until the appropriate award inventory opens on NW--which could be days, if not weeks. Failing that, you might get some accomodation in coach, provided seats are available on any carrier (most likely UA). If you have status with US and hit an angel, you might just get put on UA in J.
My strong advice would be not to mis-connect http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif. In today's day and age, I don't think US is going to be in a real hurry to pay real money to 240 you in J transpac.

I'm suprised that they allowed a 65 minute connection on an international flight. I agree that they will probably not protect you on another airline (although UA might be the exception).
Personally, I would try changing my itinerary to arrive earlier into SFO. You might even go as far as arriving in SFO the previous day. I assume that you will be traveling US on the domestic segments. If that's the case, I would assume they would be willing to make changes to prevent a possible misconnect.

Two points:
1. I can't leave ATL a day earlier, unfortunately. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif
2. The legal MCT for SFO is 60 minutes. That said, US055 has been taking frequent serious delays as of late.

If there's any way to do it, you might consider trying to make the earlier flight from PHL. You could catch the last flight of the day from ATL and overnight near the airport in PHL.
At least you have one thing in your favor. Based on today's connections, the walk isn' TOO bad. The the connection would have been from 3 to A9 (http://www.flysfo.com/guide_nonflash/index.html). A while back I had to walk from 66 to A6. Now, that's a haul!

Today's US055 took a 71-minute delay, so the walk wouldn't have been an issue. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Several years ago, I was told by a US CSR that if there's a misconnect (or cancellation) on a US award ticket, protection on another carrier depends upon the cause of the misconnect/cancellation:
* if it's weather or other non-controllable event, no protection on another carrier.
* if it's a mechanical or something within the control of US, protection on another carrier is possible.
This was several years ago (before 9-11) and related to domestic travel. International and post 9-11 could be different.

The one thing you have in your favor is that the US ground staff at SFO is fantastic -- probably the best systemwide (the club staff is also great if you're a US club member).
If something goes wrong I'm sure they'll do everything they can to get you on your way.
avek -- They might even put you on UA, unless the UA folks at SFO have been reading your FT posts and don't let you on their plane. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

The UA flights leave before and around the same time as the NW flight, so they wouldn't be an option. However, US could rebook me onto its future Star partner, Singapore Airlines. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
