1. i realize on one page it mentions office without mentioning travel requirement

2. expeditors can be faster, and the one time ive seen travel requirement, it was only for the next day service

(ive actually used the passport office before)

You want to go where?

Not so sure about this - I have gotten same day service at the 19th and L office before.

to clarify i want to get a passport renewed as fast as possible, regardless of cost. overnight would be good.

plan to talk to [national] passport agency soon.

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/travelbuzz/655013-recommendation-passport-expeditor.html

was wondering if there is something where i could drop off at [local] passport agency, then pick up at a local expeditor, if there are any in the DC metro area...

i dont understand why the government doesnt just offer the expediting services [overnight] themselves... would be happy to pay "1st party" rather than "3rd party." plus theyd need less tax dollars. :D

I don't understand your question.

I dropped off my application at the DC Passport Office at 19th and L Street and picked up my passport the next day. They ask you when you are flying - you have to show a ticket or letter from your employer. If you go a week ahead of time, they might take three days to get back to you.

passport office is worthless, because you cannot get a same day appointment, even though they have same day service.

appointment requires travel within 14 days. my appointment was 9 days after i called.

im glad i wasnt forced to go with an expeditor, but again dont understand why the govt doesnt just let you pay directly to them for true expedited service like the expeditors offer.

contacting congressman/senator is also option. didnt really want to do that.

Tell the passport office you have a flight the next day. Make a dummy refundable reservation and bring it to your appointment.

and how do you get the person who says they dont make appointments to make an appointment?

When we lived in the DC area (Falls Church) there was a Congressional passport office of some sort. I remember my wife needing a passport fast and getting it the same day. Definitely call your congressman or senator.

i dont understand why the government doesnt just offer the expediting services [overnight] themselves... would be happy to pay "1st party" rather than "3rd party." plus theyd need less tax dollars. :DKage, part of the reason why the Passport agency doesn't offer overnight expedition is that it goes against their stated policy of encouraging applications for new passports and for renewals to be made as early as possible.

One of the justifications for granting access to private expeditors is that the expeditor is bound to perform a stringent vetting of the application before it is physically brought to the Passport agency. In other words, in exchange for their guaranteed daily access, the expeditor in turn promises not to waste the Agency's time with incomplete or invalid applications. (Any expeditor worth their salt will make it very clear to their prospective clients that incomplete submittals will not be processed).

By using the private sector, the governmental agency meets a need without a need for Agency funding. I'm not saying that it's a perfect system, but it does work for those with last-minute needs who cannot plan ahead.

I live in New York City and I want to start a 3rd Party Passport Expediting Agency. I absolutely refuse to use a 3rd party passport expeditor when my company could follow the proper steps (can't find those steps) and apply to become a 3rd party passport expediting Agency.

I have searched google for countless hours, attempted using google's "advanced search option", and still the trail came up dry..... So I went to the U.S. State Department spoke with just about everyone in that 20 story tall building and no one knows the proper procedural steps. NO ONE!!! I checked with homeland security and they didn't know the answer or just felt like saying I don't know because they didn't feel like explaining it. I even called other 3rd party expeditors that have sucessful 3rd Party Expediting Services advertised online and they wouldn't even hint at the proper procedure in order to establish a 3rd party passport expediting service. Either something is a little fishy/corrupt or I and the dozens of U.S. State Department staff reps. and managers are missing something very obvious.... Look, I'm a grad student fresh out of grad school and I'm doing something entrepreneurial with my life in order to create jobs for Americans. I need to process 30 to 50 to 100 passports each week and there is NO WAY I'm using a 3rd party expeditor when my company can establish our own 3rd party passport agency...

DOES ANYONE KNOW THE ANSWER TO THESE QUESTIONS!?!?

WHAT ARE THE STEPS IN ORDER TO START A 3RD PARTY PASSPORT AGENCY?????????

1. What Government Agency licenses the 3rd Party Passport Agencies?

2. What is the proper procedure for applying for a license to become a 3rd Party Passport Agency?

3. Can anyone put me in contact with someone who might know the answer to these questions? A GOVERNMENT LAWYER, IMMIGRATION LAWYER PERHAPS?

I can't find ANYONE that knows the answer. This is a call for help...

I've never been in a chat forum before, so please try to help me in anyway you can.

Thank you so much in advance,
Pete

you did not go to the passport office in DC(how can i tell?).

for what country should one register? i have used 3rd party pp/visa service for turkey and russia(maybe ussr then). i do not think they were usa registered. we have used a 3 rd party service after my wife's pp got disappeared between the statedepartment and suburban dc.

my mother used to fly from rock island arsenal to dc and hand carry passports through state for military. she was not registered.
