Hi,

could anyone help me with a one-way car rental from PHX to ABQ?

I've tried several codes that I found with the search function and, they seemed to give a good rate BUT added 30 cents/mile.

We're taking a family vacation and could fly Southwest to PHX and back from ABQ. We could also do ABQ roundtrip but, it would save us some drive time if we could find a reasonably priced one-way car rental from PHX-ABQ.

The dates would be July 22-August 5.

We're flexible and could use any size car but, would prefer a smaller economical one.

I say this all the time: Did you check all the companies, even the "expensive" ones?

Hi Auto Enthusiast,

yes, I did check all companies. I even tried different off airport pick up areas. The lowest I found is $600+ for the 2 weeks with a one-way rental and the most was $1,700!

I can get a "regular" rental in the mid $300's for the 2 weeks.

Can you offer any suggestions?

Try pickup from a Hertz neighborhood store on a weekend rate.

The lowest rates you're seeing are actually not that bad. Because of the mileage, many one-ways have a nationwide average of $85/day plus tax. It's not that likely to see a "low" price that you might otherwise be able to get roundtrip.

This seems to be a random one-way, not a highly competitive route where all the companies charge a similar price. As such, pricing and availability can vary widely, both between companies and different locations of the same company.

One-way prices between corporate stores also reflect difference in demand. To get lower rates, try to follow the demand. Ex, smaller city to larger city, north to south in the late fall, south to north in the late spring, etc. This works better of course if you have not already bought plane tickets. Going reverse peak or reverse flow can be much more expensive.

Thanks for your suggestions.

I tried your first suggestion and it yielded the same $600+ price.

We don't have any flexibility in our dates now but we also don't have our flights either. So, we could change our routing some.

We also don't have to do a one-way rental, I just thought it might shave off a little time and allow us to use the time sightseeing instead of driving.

If it's going to cost us $300+ it's probably not going to be worth the extra expense.

I appreciate your help.
