no upgrade for u

A word of warning. I have a flight scheduled next week and used the website when I made the reservation to request an upgrade. When I reached the 7 day window I didn't upgrade, even though there were seats available (CP). When I called, thankfully there was still a seat up front available, but the lady said they had had several problems with this lately and had been instructed to document them all (she could see where I had requested the upgrade in reservations.)

I would prefer to rely on technology rather than use the phone, but no longer.

After a recent fiasco with booking and upgrading an award reservation online, I'm completely unwilling to trust the e-upgrade/award booking function, and have continued to call the CP desk to queue up upgrade requests and make award reservations.

Another problem to watch for:

Back in December I decided that I had too many miles in the kitty, so I upgraded three trips with US 20 awards - the miles were deducted from my account.

The first trip was last week and when I looked at my account on Wed, they had also debited my upgrade bank!

I spent about 15 minutes on hold with the Dividend Miles Service center - on my nickel to have it corrected.

The comment was that I needed to TELL them at check in that the upgrade was already paid for with miles or it would happen again!!

Seems strange to me - but a word to the wise.

On my LAX-PIT-DCA trip in December, I upgraded in advance using my last unrestricted DMUPSYS. At checkin, the agent said "You're upgrading?" and I handed him the cert. When I got home, I noticed that 6 e-upgrades had also been deducted.

I e-mailed the DMSC and they credited 6 e-upgrades back to my account. I think the "you have to tell the agent" logic is false, since I clearly told him I was using an upgrade cert -- and I handed it to him! He just coded my record wrong.

Remember, they trained everyone in September or so and implemented MONTHS later. Don't be too upset with the agents, or think that the intention is to 'rob' you. There are stories of things going in people's favor and things going against.
