Anyone have any experience with this? I got a premium award ticket and wanted to upgrade my companion using upgrades on her paid coach ticket . The res. computer wouldn't allow it. Anyone have any success at the counter or gate?
When you say the 'res. computer', do you mean you tried to do it online, or the reservation agent on the phone couldn't make it work?
The first thing to do is to have your reservations linked. Then, once they are linked, the companion gets the same status as you, for the puposes of upgradeability. At that point, they should be able to apply the companion upgrade rule.
If that's not allowed, or doesn't work, maybe pony up some points to get a confirmed upgrade in advance.

I called the gold desk. She couldn't do it. She said they have to go by the book. She also said they changed lots of things in the computer. It was a problem in the computer because mine is a premium award. Also said I probably wouldn't be able to use the upgrades in my bank but paper certs might work at the counter.

US just called. They made a mistake and they had me down for 2 award tickets when ticketing and it didn't go through because I didn't have enough miles. Then realized that my daughter and I weren't on the same flight. One was paid/one is prem. award. It hopefully is all straightened out now.
We both have different locator numbers so should I call and have them linked? Then she truly is my companion correct?

I am Preferred and am planning to get a domestic premium award ticket for a relative; any chance I can upgrade my relative if I'm not traveling (perhaps if a premium award ticket could be treated as a first-class-for-coach ticket or the like)?
Thanks.

No. But isn't a standard First award the same amount of points as a premium coach? Why not redeem that way.

Thanks for the info. Oddly enough, regular award seats in first aren't available the dates my relative wants to travel, but premium award seats in coach are.

If you have any status with US (Silver & up), premium awards are upgradeable at time of booking depending on availability. The upgrades for these come out of the P bucket and not E so there is usually a lot more availability.
