US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - Codeshare Service to Asia and Europe Coming Soon

It is my understanding that US Airways has submitted an application to the relevant US and foreign authorities to begin service to various points in Asia and Europe in conjunction with United Airlines. The companies are seeking to codeshare to cities such as BRU, AMS, NRT, KIX, and HKG. The DOT will likely approve the application, and codeshare could be expected to begin as early as late Q2/early Q3 2003, assuming of course that UA is still around in its current form at that time.

Does anyone have any idea if US will pick up more/any Europe/Asia routes or rely strictly on UA here?

If my memory serves, US has their own metal servicing LGW, Manchester, MUC, AMS, CDG, FCO (Rome), and Madrid, right? Which of those are A330?

A330s go to LGW (from PHL), CDG, FRA (from PHL, PIT), FCO, MAN

I am only referring to flights that will offer the US code but will be operated by United.

Can anyone confirm what I just read. An article on CBS Marketwatch stated that DM members flying on UAL get a 50 percent mileage bonus? Is this correct? Also is this only on the codeshare flights or systemwide if so? I have tickets booked to GRU via ORD from MIA. That would make me very happy.

You get the same Preferred bonus that you would have received on US. 50% for Silver, 100% for Gold and Chairman's. Systemwide. Even if it's NOT a codeshare.

Hmmm... AMS is on that list. I guess that means we should say dag to PHL-AMS service...

My understanding is that it is for code sharing purposes only. Flights will be operated by UAL. Keep in mind that USAir barely knows that there is land beyond Denver. I don't think they realize that their is an entire continent across the ocean.

I certainly hope not. It's the 42/43 combo (and ability to upgrade using my SWU and DM) that keep me with US! The UA flights to IAD and ORD just aren't nearly as convenient (and are usually more expensive too).

Theres nothing that precludes them from code-sharing where destination cities are already served (eg AMS) - They just cannot codeshare on competing routes, eg PHL-AMS. I assume UA flies IAD-AMS (and maybe ORD?).

Agreed though that I hope this doesnt mean the end of AMS service. Cutting AMS might be something they have in mind to rationalize having 2 flights to Ireland a day..

They do have to get DOT authority.

Right - what I meant was that the approval for the codeshare (from the US Govt) doesnt restrict them to codesharing only to 'new' cities. No problem to codeshare to AMS, even though they both already serve it. Cant imagine why DOT wouldnt approve after the blanket codeshare approval was already given..

does it even need approval from DOT, with the open skies agreement in place between USA and NL?
