Years of headache.

Plan on, for starters, Stockton St. being mostly unavailable for a long, long time.

If you don't need to drive around there, don't. Thank you!

Wow, thanks for the notice. I didn't see this anywhere on SF Gate.

It's an interesting route. The Stockton bus has to be one of the most crowded and slow moving in the City. Given that this is Muni and not a legitimate public transit provider, I doubt it will be any faster or reliable than the existing bus.

They're digging a few holes and using TBMs between them, so once they're done with holes, those will be mostly covered up, so there will be disruptions, but they won't be huge.

You are correct. There might also be long term disruptions associated construction of the individual stations. The entry and exit pits for the TBMs need to stay open for access and there will be a line of trucks waiting to haul off the excavated material but that should be it. Impact along the ROW itself should be minimal.

I was trapped in this mess the other night and had no idea what they were up to. Thanks for posting the info, I'll try to avoid this area right now. I was heading West and notably, California had far less traffic than Pine.

It doesn't take much for traffic to turn into a disaster around there. 2 double-parked delivery trucks usually does it, let along closed lanes. I think my route to Sutter/Stockton Garage will be going up 6th, cross Market, up the hill, and right on Bush for the foreseeable future.

Hmm... Pine should not be impacted as it passes above Stockton tunnel, and the digging is below it. If you're talking about displaced traffic, Pine is generally more crowded all the way to Leavenworth, sometimes to Van Ness. If you're going to the western parts of the city, use Howard/9th and Turk or Fell/Oak to get there.

Excellent suggestions. I have great success with Howard/9th and Turk. Also driving off peak hours helps a lot. ;)

So is traffic up 3rd st from 280 to Sutter and then to the Sutter-Stockton garage impacted by this?

Shouldn't be, as the subway digging is on 4th street.
